MINAT boss extends comfort from the Head of State to accident victims and families in Kombe

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji, with Louis Paul Motaze, Minister of Finance (MINFI), the Governor of the South Region, administrative authorities, and security officials were in Sangmelima this October 10, 2024, to offer comfort and support to victims and families affected by a tragic accident that occurred in Kombe, some 17 kilometres from Sangmelima. The accident was between a semi-trailer truck and a bus belonging to the Galaxy transport agency, leaving 15 dead and several injured. During their visit, the government officials made several stops. They first arrived at the accident site, where they observed a moment of silence in memory of the deceased. The delegation then visited the Dja and Lobo Gendarmerie Legion, where the wreckage of the vehicles was displayed. From there, they continued to the Sangmelima District Hospital, where they delivered a message of comfort and solidarity from the President of the Republic to the injured. They also went to the Sangmelima Reference Hospital to check on other survivors. Here a church service was held in honour of the 15 victims.

Moreover, in a meeting with the families of the victims and survivors, MINAT boss Atanga Nji Paul reaffirmed the heartfelt condolences and solidarity of the presidential couple. In addition, he stated that the government would fully cover the medical costs of the injured and provide a special financial donation to assist the affected families during this difficult time. Investigations suggest that human error was the main cause of the accident. Minister Atanga Nji then called for heightened awareness and caution among drivers using the Yaoundé-Sangmelima road, particularly in areas known to be prone to accidents. To commemorate the tragic event and ensure it is not forgotten, a signpost will be erected on the site of the accident.
